COACHES WANTED

The Tasmanian University Women’s Hockey Club seeks senior and junior coaches for the 2010 season.

A Grade / Club Coach

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who will give full consideration to all aspects of the coaching role and take the next step with a playing group that, in 2009, showed an ability to match it with every team in the competition. There is considerable room to further improve and bring the A grade team up to a competitive standard.

The successful person will work closely with Ollie Close who has already been appointed as A Grade Assistant coach.

With a pool of motivated and committed players, as well as talented juniors, there is huge potential for the team to step up and play finals hockey in 2010. This is a great opportunity for an incoming Coach to make a difference.

The position also requires the Club Coach to work with the A Reserve and junior club coaches to identify common attacking and defensive patterns that will enable developing players to step up to A grade more easily. Forging closer ties with underage and Reserves teams is seen as critical to rebuilding the club to the strength of its last ‘heyday’ period of the 1980s.

Interested people should submit a brief expression of interest addressing your past experience and approach to the 2010 season. This might include the following: articulation of the style of game to be developed; how you would create a common vision amongst the playing group; your approach to player development and list management; communication style with players to provide feedback and to resolve conflict; and your proposed approach to working closely with the relevant club coaches.

A Reserves Coach

An enthusiastic and supportive individual who will develop the team and individuals further and bring our promising younger players through. You will work closely with both A Grade coaches and also with U18 and U16 coaches. A brief statement of your past experience and your approach should be provided.

Other Senior Coaches

In addition, we also seek coaches for up to four senior teams likely to be fielded in 2nd and 3rd grades. In 2009, we fielded two teams in each of these grades and we expect to do the same in 2010.

Junior Coaches

With 5 of our juniors in underage state teams, the club seeks coaches to take the future of our club forward even further. Please note that it is a Hockey Tasmania requirement that a police check be undertaken for anyone working with underage players.

Club Support

The club is very supportive of coaches gaining formal qualifications. To this end, it provides reimbursement of the Hockey Australia Beginner level coaching accreditation. The club also provides a small financial payment to all of its coaches. The amount paid is weighted more highly for A Pool coaches to reflect both the higher level of competency, and greater time commitment required. Coaches who also play for the women’s club are exempt from umpiring duties.

To Apply

If interested, please send an expression of interest stating which position you are interested and outlining the reason why you would be suitable. Applications from player coaches are also welcome.
