Participation and engagement with hockey continues to grow in Tasmania and Australia through a growth in exposure and the continued success of the sport at a local, state, national and international level. The Tasmanian University Hockey Club (TUHC) is one of Tasmania’s largest Clubs with teams competing in every Senior and Junior division in the Southern Hockey League.

A major benefit of Hockey in Southern Tasmania is the competitions use of one shared space for all training and matches at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre (THC) in New Town. The THC includes d a function centre used for functions, conferences, seminars and other events year-round. It also hosts regular national and international events. On a weekly basis the THC is used by approximately 2000 players in winter and approximately 400 in summer rosters. In addition, the THC is regularly visited by parents and supporters of hockey in Tasmania.

The TUHC is one of Tasmania’s largest hockey clubs with its University affiliation supporting its strong community reach. The Club fields teams in every division from Premier League down to the Under 8s, with multiple teams competing in each Women’s B Pool division. In addition, numerous junior and senior players representing Tasmania at National Competitions in Junior, Senior and Masters teams.

All sponsorship money provided to the Club is used to lower the costs for members and continue the strong development of players and umpires across the Club.
